Recently, Year 12 students, Cooper Brown and Arannatee Farid, participated in The National Youth Science Forum (NYSF). The program is designed to give students a broader understanding of the diverse study and career options available in science, technology, engineering and mathematics and to encourage continued studies in these fields.
Following their experiences, Cooper and Arannatee attended a Rotary Club of Ballarat meeting to share their insights and thank Rotary for their sponsorship and for providing them with this special opportunity.
“As a young woman who would like to pursue engineering in the not-so-distant future, I found that NYSF not only helped me solidify my choice of career, but also introduced me to potential pathways that I’d never considered before,” said Arannatee. “NYSF was truly an unforgettable experience that introduced me to the many possibilities and pathways my future could take while allowing me to connect with other amazing young science-lovers from all around the country who I may end up attending university with or even working with in the future.”
As a part of NYSF, Cooper and Arannatee visited the Defence Science and Technology Group and participated in online sessions, including a live cross to engineers working on the larger hadron collider in Switzerland. Significantly, they were exposed to how knowledge in STEM can be applied to real world scenarios while working with passionate and like-minded individuals from across the country.
“The NYSF opened my eyes to the interconnectedness of scientific disciplines and their application in tackling the complex challenges of our time,” said Cooper. “Participating in the program allowed me to experience the application of science in realistic situations, paired with my studies at Clarendon. I am incredibly grateful to Rotary Club of Ballarat and NYSF for helping me discover my passion for medicine.”
“I would like to thank the Rotary Club of Ballarat for sponsoring me and enabling me to be a part of the phenomenal National Youth Science Forum,” said Arannatee. “It was truly an eye-opening experience and one I’ll never forget. Without sponsorship, I would never have been able to attend this wonderful program.”
We are grateful to Rotary Club of Ballarat for their support of our students in choosing their hearts’ desires.
