Our VET music and Year 9 contemporary band students recently had the unique opportunity to participate in a full-day music recording workshop at Oxygen College in Geelong. This experience allowed our students to record in industry-standard facilities and interact with experts in the field.
During their visit, students were introduced to the college’s sound team and recorded their music in a professional studio. The day included a tour of the campus and a seminar discussing the courses and career pathways available at Oxygen College.
The experience was a first for many students, who were thrilled to work with professional music producers.
“It was a great workshop. We could experience the real-life music industry and see how it works professionally,” said Usha Clift (Year10).
Oscar Lamont (Year 9) shared his excitement, “As a drummer, I was in a separate sound-proof room from the singers and other instruments. With my headphones on, I could hear the rest of the band and the studio could make adjustments to the recording. It was amazing!”
Phillip Fisher (Year 10) added, “I really enjoyed the experience and It was great to have conversations with people in the music industry.”
The staff at Oxygen College were impressed with our students’ enthusiasm and positive learning attitude and provided valuable feedback and guidance to students throughout the day.
“We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Head of Sound Production and Digital Arts, Peter Flynn at Oxygen College, who generously provided this opportunity for our students,” said Jerry Lau, Head of Contemporary Music.
