Step into Victorian London with Clarendon’s spectacular production of Oliver!

After a 14-week rehearsal period, the anticipated Senior Musical of 2024, Oliver! is set to captivate audiences at the Wendouree Centre for Performing Arts. From Thursday onwards, the stage will come alive with the timeless tale of Oliver Twist, featuring a stellar cast, backstage crew and a live orchestra.

With a cast and crew comprising over 70 talented students and staff from the Middle and Senior School, this production promises to transport audiences to the gritty streets of mid-nineteenth-century London. “In Oliver!, students immersed themselves in the dark and grimy world of mid-nineteenth-century London, refining their Cockney accents and bringing to life some of literature and theatre’s most wicked and wonderful characters,” said Director Nicholas McMahon.

Based on Charles Dickens’ 1828 novel, Oliver Twist, the musical follows the journey of an orphan in Victorian England who discovers love and family amidst a group of petty thieves and pickpockets, risking it all when embraced by the benevolent Mr Brownlow.

Under the guidance of Nicholas McMahon, alongside Sarah Landy’s choreography, Steven Belcher’s musical direction, and Kyle Hackwill’s choral expertise, Oliver! promises to deliver an unforgettable theatrical experience to the local community. “The last time Clarendon students performed Oliver! was in the 2009 Middle School Musical,” shared Nicholas McMahon. “It’s fabulous to see the Head of Performing Arts, Steven Belcher, taking to the conductor’s podium again 15 years later in the same production.”
