Students take to the stage for the Years 7-9 Musical, Singin’ in the Rain JR

Tonight, students involved in the Years 7-9 Musical will take to the stage for their debut performance of Singin’ in the Rain JR. Over 50 cast and crew have been rehearsing for the last two terms to bring together their rendition of the famous film, starring Gene Kelly.

Singin’ in the Rain JR is a single-act adaptation which still includes all the hit songs and hilarious moments from the film. The Years 7-9 Musical will also be performed tomorrow, Saturday 20 August, at 2pm and 7pm at Wendouree Centre for Performing Arts.

The creative team of Director, Nicholas McMahon, Choreographer, Lauren Young, Choral Director, Fleur Goodman and Costume Designer, Pauline Postlethwaite, have worked together to bring the glamour and style of Hollywood in the roaring 20s to life.

“It has been an absolute joy working with the talented cast and crew to bring this charming show together,” said Director, Nicholas McMahon. “The students have worked so hard and demonstrated great teamwork whilst learning from one another and working collaboratively. We are excited to take to the stage in front of a live audience this evening.”

Y9 student, Oscar Mulcahy, will play Don Lockwood, a Hollywood socialite who has a love for the screen.

“As performers, we only play a small part in the show as there’s lots of things that go on behind the curtains, such as lighting, sound, costuming and, of course, our amazing volunteer backstage crew,” said Oscar. “The show would truly not be able to happen without these people.”

“I’m most excited about performing again with all my amazing cast and friends,” said Oscar. “It’s a great opportunity to have some fun and do what we all love.”
