Inspiring and Exceptional
We value learning as the key attribute of
developed individuals and communities. The prime function of the school is to
prepare young people for independent and informed participation in the global
community.
We believe that:
- schools must prepare students to invent their future
- a conscious evolution of the learner is critical to the development of an independent individual capable of ethical decision making
- reaching a necessary level of competency in core life skills such as literacy, numeracy and communication allows participation in the community and is an issue of equity
- ensuring success for all students requires clear learning goals, accurate monitoring and assessment and intervention when progress is not made
- ensuring excellent teaching requires the ongoing development of teacher expertise through the identification of effective approaches and the sharing of exceptional practice
- accurate, immediate and continuous feedback is necessary for the development of expertise in both learning and teaching
- conflicts and problems provide authentic learning situations
- the future of individuals and communities is dependent on the evolution of learning capabilities
- almost all students can reach accepted standards
- the School recognises responsibility to develop competence, social behaviour, aptitude for teamwork and initiative, leadership and readiness to take risks.
It is our aim "to provide a dynamic, innovative, supportive learning environment which will nurture and develop the potential of each boy and girl, in all aspects of their being - body, mind and spirit."
We are committed to:
- learning throughout life
- ensuring the achievement of agreed benchmark standards for students
- using innovation to achieve improved outcomes for students and to maximise the talent of the staff
- aligning practice and resources to meet the goals of the school
- developing the capacity of staff to be at the forefront of knowledge and skill learning and teaching, achieved by an approach to staff development which is systematic, continuous and purposeful
- facilitating in young people, as preparation for life, the conscious evolution of knowledge, competencies, attitudes, values and beliefs
- a whole-school focus on student responsibility in the design of solutions to real problems.
